El Salvador included in the index
Data on the cyber security situation of El Salvador is now available in the index.
El Salvador places 101th in the rankings, with good scores for their capacities of e-identification and trust services, education and professional development, and fight against cybercrime.
The data was gathered through public data collection and checked by NCSI experts.

Datasets updated for many countries
Many countries have raised in the rankings in the past weeks, as our contributors have provided new data to the index. For European countries, the changes have been very much related to the transposing of the European Union directive on security of networks and information systems.
The countries who have gone through the highest raise in the NCSI ranking are:
- Slovenia (+19 places)
- Cyprus (+18 places)
- Aserbaijan (+17 places)
- Malta (+12 places)
- Italy (+10 places)
- Australia (+8 places)
- New Zealand (+6 places)
- Bangladesh (+5 places)
- Czech Republic (+2 places)
New data is also available for Estonia and Latvia, which did not influence their ranking in the index.

Data on Guatemala and Venezuela now available
Data on the cyber security situation of Guatemala and Venezuela is now available in the index.
Guatemala placed 82nd in the rankings, with with good scores for their capacities of e-identification and trust services and fight against cybercrime, and scoring in five further capacities.
Venezuela entered the index in 76th place, with good scores for their capacity of e-identification and trust services, fight against cybercrime, and cyber incidents response, but with positive scores in five other capacities as well.

Nicaragua added to the index
Data on the cyber security situation of Nicaragua is now available in the index.
Nicaragua placed 93rd in the rankings, with a perfect score for their capacity to protect personal data, a good score for e-identification and trust services, and positive scores in four further capacities.

Data on Ecuador and Chad published
Data on the cyber security situation of Ecuador and Chad is now available in the index.
Ecuador places 75th in the rankings, with good scores for their capacities of e-identification and trust services, military cyber operations, and cyber incidents response.
Chad enters the index in 101st place, scoring in four strategic capacities, with their best performances in the field of personal data protection as well as e-identification and trust services.

Cuba, Paraguay, Costa Rica join the index
Data on the cyber security situation of Cuba, Paraguay and Costa Rica is now available in the index.
Cuba placed 107th in the rankings, with a perfect score for their capacity to protect digital services and a good score for cyber indicents response.
Paraguay entered the index in 58th place, scoring full points for their capacity of fight against cybercrime, as well as good results in the capacities of e-identification and trust services, cyber security policy development, and cyber incidents response.
Costa Rica ranked highest of the three Latin American countries, coming in 44th. They received 100% of the points for their capacities of personal data protection and fight against cybercrime. Other notable high scores were awarded for their capacities of cyber incidents response, e-identification and trust services, as well as education and professional development.

Chile and Ireland climb in the ranking
With the help of national experts, two countries have significantly improved their ranking in the National Cyber Security Index.
Chile is now ranked 33rd, and third in the Americas region, with perfect scores for their capacities of cyber security policy development and fight against cybercrime, and good results in the capacities of e-identification and trust services, education and professional development, military cyber operations, and cyber incidents response. The data for Chile was provided by Mr Carlos Landeros from the Ministry of Interior and Public Security of Chile.
Ireland is ranked 25th after an update provided by the National Cyber Security Centre. Ireland achieved the perfect score for their capacities of personal data protection and cyber incidents response, together with high scores in the fields of e-identification and trust services, protection of essential services, protection of digital services, education and professional development, and fight against cybercrime.

Lithuania claims first place
After a data update, Lithuania is now ranked first in the National Cyber Security Index. The update takes into account the 2018 update to the Lithuanian cybersecurity law, transposing the EU Directive on security of network and information systems, but has new information also in the field of education, cyber incidents response, and cyber crisis management. Lithuania reaches the full score in 9 of the 12 capacities.
